Lockdown self love

The last year has taken us all beyond the realms of what we ever thought possible. It’s been a time that has absolutely challenged our mental health.

But while we have all faced the same pandemic, our mental battles have undoubtedly been entirely unique. From discovering a new-found anxiety that has sewn a seed in your soul to missing the routine that defines you, employment worries, relationship tensions or the pressure as a parent to simultaneously balance the challenge of being a dedicated worker, caring parent, and an encouraging teacher, the pandemic has pushed our mental wellness to the limit.

But is it possible to tell our mind a different story by focussing on small positives and letting our minds dwell there for a while?

Life in lockdown

Lockdown has brought a new rhythm to our lives – one that has given us more time than ever at home. It has also broken down the boundaries of our work, family, and social lives. The lines are now blurred. But where there is ambiguity, there lies opportunity.

The definition of what ‘normal’ is lie entirely within our own mind. Our minds play out the stories that we tell ourselves every day, so why not rewrite a better version?

We are what we think

Is your work/life balance out of kilter? Are you giving your mind, body, and soul what it needs, or have you been ignoring signals that tell you something isn’t right? Try to take this new lockdown as an invaluable opportunity to redefine your life and what is and isn’t working for you. It’s unlikely that we’ll get another opportunity for self-reflection and redefinition of our life quite like this within our lifetime so please don’t waste it!

In the words of Buddha, ‘We are what we think’.

Try redirecting the way your thoughts are headed and push them towards something more positive. If you find you’re dwelling on something negative, try to find one thing to be thankful for and focus intently on that. Forget any other worries or anxieties and let your mind lead the way.
